Hey, I'm Trying to Get Some Sleep Here

I bought a new, name-brand window air conditioner a few days ago.  Seems pretty nice but the "All About" brochure that came in the box contained a section titled "Normal Sounds" and proceeds to tell me that all of the following noises coming from the unit are perfectly normal:

Sound of Rushing Air
High-pitched Chatter
Vibration
Pinging or Swishing
Gurgle/Hiss

I'm not making this up.

You make me feel much better about my noisy air conditioner, whose vibration is making me mad.

I guess buying a new one won't help, eh?

Well so far all it's made is the Rushing Air sound, so maybe those other things were just threats. Or maybe chuckles that the company's instruction-writing geeks threw in to cover all the bases.

I'm just wondering why you bought a window air conditioner when your house has central AC. 50 degrees still too hot for your shorts & Hawaiian shirt apparel? Or is this for the winter months when Nana wants the heat higher?

Ahhh, tis a mystery that will unfold my grasshopper!

How does a mystery unfold your grasshopper? Ahh, grammatical humor! hehehe!

Darn English marms! I should always remember from Jr High English, "Fred tripped over the trash can walking through the alley." Or "What's that in the road, a head?"

I always enjoy the "Eats, shoots, & leaves" joke

As someone who sells A/C at a large national retail chain, you might be amazed (then again, perhaps not) at the number of people who wish to know what is the quietest A/C unit. Or "will this be quieter than my last one?"

Or "how loud is it?"

We will then turn it on. They will listen carefully. Then pronounce it too loud and leave to continue their quest for the silent air conditioner.

Too much of that rushing air sound.

Well, yeah, you can say that the noise you’re hearing is just normal if they were all part of the AC package you bought but if you happen to have had your AC unit for years now and you hear some gurgling sound and vibrations, well, that only means that there is something wrong with your air conditioner. It’s important that you let a technician check it to determine if there’s any problem going on.
